The One Where The Gang Faces The Consequences Of Their (?) Actions
The adventuring party found themselves caught in the aftermath of a chaotic incident in the sewers that had led to devastating consequences. Their guild licenses were temporarily revoked, and they were placed under investigation. Officer Grizclark “Brass-Eye” was called in to lead this investigation into SevFI’s actions.
Grizclark interrogated each member of SevFI one by one. Everyone gives their recount of what happened in the sewers. Some excepts from some of the interrogations include, Quill handing over a written report, the size of a novel, that covered every detail in extreme. Nib, who had snuck into the interrogation area unseen, managed to scry some memories from Grizclark. Grizclark felt this, so attempted to do the same to Quill, assuming he was the one responsible for doing this. Quill allowed this to happen without any opposition and explained that it wasn’t him who read him, but it was his familiar and asked if Grizclark would like to meet him. When Nib came out, Quill was able to also see these memories and he started writing them all down in a notebook.
Garian’s interrogation was going well, he was answering any questions pertaining to the sewers when asked, but when Grizclark started asking questions related more to Garian’s past, he would not answer. When Grizclark attempted to scry further into Garian’s memories, he got nothing. This upset Grizclark and ended the interrogation.
Linzu’s interrogation did not go well, as he was not present for the sewer incident. He was mouthy with Grizclark as well, which put them at odds. Grizclark smacked Linzu around and then threw him out of the interrogation area.
After the individual interrogations, BasBo had returned to the guild hall and summoned SevFI and Grizclark to his office. BosBo requested that he be able to scry all of the groups memories, and SevFI allowed him to do this.
Each member’s memories seemed unreliable, clouded by magical interference, leading to confusion and frustration. As the investigation continued, Basbo made it clear that the restoration of their licenses and privileges would depend on their cooperation, though the weight of their previous actions, including the destruction of parts of the sewer, hung over them. The group struggled with the idea that their memories might have been tampered with, leading to disagreements on what had truly transpired.
Quill, the Kenku wizard, played a pivotal role in the investigation, using his perfect recall to revisit moments from the past. However, even his memories seemed compromised, hinting at the possibility that someone had used amnestics on the group.
During their testimony, the party discussed their bizarre interactions with kobolds, particularly a creature named “Good Boy,” whose absurd behavior, including wearing underwear on its head, added moments of levity amidst the serious accusations. Despite their best efforts to piece together what happened in the sewers, the group kept stumbling over their own conflicting recollections. It was revealed that they had all unknowingly ingested some form of amnestic, likely altering their memories of key events. The evidence mounted against them as Basbo revealed that magical tests confirmed their exposure to these substances, deepening the mystery of who had orchestrated this plot.
As the tension rose, Garian, the Half-Elf Paladin, found himself at the center of the guild’s judgment and was arrested. The rest of the party was left to ponder their fates while Garian was led away, cast into solitary confinement. The group could do little to stop the arrest, as they faced the stark reality that their fragmented recollections were now working against them.
Quill, personally offended that his memories could not be trusted, determined to go through every single memory he had with Nib for each day between returning from the Troupe de Termina up to the day he went into the sewers, trying to find anything out of the ordinaryh. They scrutinized each day, trying to uncover when and how their memories had been altered. Despite their efforts, the investigation yielded few new clues, only confirming the pervasive sense that something had been done to them without their knowledge.
Garian’s fate took a darker turn when he was escorted off by guards leading this his “solitary confinement”, which turned out to be a portal to what appeared to be Avernus. It was there, in the fiery, oppressive landscape, that the guards who were escorting him, revealed themselves to both be the same Dragonborn who was down in the sewers. One of them immediately took a swing at Grizclark, who went with to escort Garian to his cell. Garian was restrained and had no weapons on him so he was helpless in this battle, but Grizclark attempted to fight off the two “guards”. Unfortunately, Grizclark was unable to fight them off and died in the battle.
Meanwhile, the rest of the party, free to roam the guild under surveillance, was left to contemplate their next move. The looming threat of further arrests and their uncertain status in the guild left them anxious and on edge. Quill’s decision to pore over every minor detail, from the food they ate to the people they interacted with, signaled their resolve to uncover the truth. Yet, the group knew that they were running out of time as the guild’s patience grew thin and the consequences of their actions became unavoidable.
As the session drew to a close, the party was left with more questions than answers. Garian’s imprisonment in Avernus, the altered memories, and the looming threat of further guild sanctions left the group in a precarious position. With trust among the party members fraying and their standing in the guild at risk, they would need to uncover the truth behind the mysterious manipulation of their memories before it was too late. The session ended with a sense of impending doom, as the group prepared for whatever trials awaited them next.
