The First One: The Begininging
We find our selves in the Guild Headquarters in Lleaud. Its time for each of us to register with the Pathfinder’s Order of Extraploration and make our party official. As we enter we meet Bahbahra Sheeldshell, an older Tortle, who introduces herself and explains the process of registering as an official adventure party with the guild. We fill out all the required paperwork and get our official PoE ID cards. Shortly after, we are given our first contract. We are to head to the Troupe de Termina Faire Grounds, home of the famous extraplanar circus of the same name, to answer a general call for help. The contract itself did not have many details, so we were not exactly sure what we were in for. Bahbahra tells us that we can use the portal in the main hall, and as long as we have a contract with us, it will act as “directions” for the teleportation process.
Before heading to the portal, we explored the first floor of the guild hall. While wandering around, we came across Pip-pip, a small dust sprite who acts as the guild mascot and helper. His moves are so quick, you could almost swear you see him in more than one place at any given time. From time to time, he stops to assist someone with a task. Much to our surprise, a very large muscular arm will come out of his small body when he is assisting with tasks. Our first stop while exploring is the guild’s general goods shop. There isn’t anything special here, however it does carry most of your essentials that you might need for an extended leave from the guild hall. Inside the general goods shop, the party meets Bobahra, a stout dwarf who runs the shop. The party stocks up on a variety of items, including health potions and Quill buys a single scroll of recall. As this is one of the most expensive items in the shop, Bobahra is slightly surprised that a newcomer can afford it.
Before heading out of the store, a large ornate bottle catches Quill’s eye, and he asks Bobahra about it. Bobahra laughs and says “Aye lad, that you for sure cannot afford”. Quill asks how much for just a single vial of it, without actually having any idea of what it is. Bobahra asks Quill why he wants it so badly, to which Quill responds, “Everything should be experienced at least once.” Bobahra chuckles to himself and shouts to Pip-pip to bring two shot glasses. Bobahra grabs the bottle and pours two shots and hands one to Quill. They both down the shot, and Quill feels the strongest he’s ever felt in his life. He felt like maybe he’d even be able to open one of those large wooden doors that he always struggles with on his own. Bobahra exclaims, “Nothing beats Auntie Bear’s Patented Family Strength Potion”, as he starts to flex his muscles. Pip-pip also flexes two arms that pop out of his body.
After leaving the general goods shop, the party notices there is a gift shop down the hall. They approach and find that it is full of Pip-pip themed items, with a very, very excited worker at the register. He tries to hound the party in to the shop and is showing off some of the Pip-pip merchandise. The party makes a mental note to avoid this section of the hall in the future.
The party heads towards the portal, and it turns out that out of everyone, Quill is the only one who has visited the circus before. The party gathers at the portal and heads through. When the party arrives at the Faire Grounds, they immediately noticed there was no one at the gates. Making our way through the entrance, the large tents came into view, each one with lines of people waiting to get into them.
Trying to figure out where we should start looking for “Small”, “Medium”, and “Large”, the trio who run the Troupe de Termina, Mitsuku the Ranger exclaimed, “WE SHOULD CHECK THE FOOD COURT FIRST!”. One thing we learned very early on was that Mitsuku always had food on the mind. Since no one else had any better ideas of where to start, the party started walking towards the food court.
When we arrived, we attempted to speak with some of the people in the lines, and they appeared to be either charmed or entranced. The only thing they could say was “Huzzah!”. We investigated one of the food stalls and we saw that there was a robed person deep in concentration casting conjuration magic. We attempted to talk to them, and they would only keep chanting and not break concentration. We asked to speak to their manager, and another robed person came out, doing the exact same thing.
We went behind the food stall, and we saw more robed figures doing this, surrounding a giant glowing sigil. Garian touched the sigil and his mind was pulled to a realm that looked like a giant feast hall, with a table stretching as far as he could see covered in food. Above the table was a floating sigil that was slowly moving towards him. Thaskagh pulled him away from the sigil, which snapped Garian out of the trance, but when he snapped out of it, he was covered in mashed potatoes. When Garian snapped out of it, he whispered “He’s coming.” Thaskagh ended up touching the sigil afterwards and the same thing happened to him. Quill saw this, and wanted to experience it for himself, so he touched a single finger to the sigil.
Each time a new person touched it, the sigil floating over the table was getting closer and closer. Quill used prestidigitation to clean himself of the mashed potatoes. While the party was trying to figure out what to do, Quill suggested to Garian and Thaskagh that since spells like this require concentration to maintain, that we could try breaking their concentration. Attempts were made but nothing distracted them. Quill suggested that maybe just throwing one of them into the middle of the sigil would break the spell or at least their concentration. One of the robed figures was thrown into the middle of the large sigil, which caused him to start spasming, and the rest of the robed figures to increase in pace and volume their chanting.
This caused the sigil to explode, leaving a crater in the ground, and a very large golden turkey hovering over it to appear. It introduced itself as “Turkastor, the Delicious One, Bringer of the Endless Feast”. Quill communed with it in Avian language, and Iliana translated for the rest of the party. Quill was trying to get information out of it, and Turkastor told him that he was there against his will. Trying to convince Turkastor to give the information to Quill, he said that he freed him. Turkastor then proclaimed that Quill was his “Chosen Champion” because of this and should be rewarded. Turkastor made it rain “the most delicious smelling and tasting food” all around the area. Quill did not eat any of it, but Mitsuku gathered up as much of it as she could. She did not eat any of it until Quill gave her permission to.
Turkastor was not being very helpful, and Quill was running out of patience, so he pulled out the scroll of recall, erased the party’s names on the scroll, and wrote down Turkastor’s name. Feeling like this was a perfect idea, and that there would be no downside to this action at all, he activated the scroll, sending Turkastor to the main area of the guild hall.
Now free of the turkey, that party headed to the next area they saw which was “Mermaid’s Cove”. All of the party except for Mitsuku and Thaskagh got into line, while the other two snuck in. We met some pirates who were basically guarding the entrance to the tent, who only really seemed to care that people were in line. They stamped each person who was in line’s hand as they entered. Garian attempted to lick the stamp on his hand and transfer it to Thaskagh and Mitsuku after we met up in line, which only erased the stamp from his hand. Because they did not have stamps, the closer they got to the large water tank that had the mermaids in it, they would get very drowsy. They eventually went back to the pirate at the door and had their hands stamped again.
Quill recognized one of the mermaids from one of the previous times he had been there, so the party approached her to talk. We were told to meet her backstage in a few minutes. The party went to the backstage area, while a few of the mermaids swam through connecting tunnels between the pools to get back there.
Quill talks to the mermaid and also discovers that they were there against their will. This does not sit well with him, so he explains how he freed Turkastor and says he will free them as well. They are very interested in this and more of the mermaids come over to join the discussion. Quill explains how he used a scroll of recall to free Turkastor, and says he can do the same for them, but he would need to go get another scroll to do so. He asks them if they have any gold to help cover the cost and one of them swims down and comes back up with a locked chest. The druid is able to pick the lock of the chest. Inside was 400 gold and a spherical gem. The druid kept the gem and Quill took the gold, and the party heads back to the portal that would take them to the Guild Headquarters. One the way there, Iliana throws the gemstone at the ground and it shatters. After doing this, the party hears screams and blood splatter coming from the Mermaid Cove. The party decides this is a problem for later and Quill continues walking to the portal. The party follows.
Once the party returns to the Guild Headquarters, they see a bunch of Guild members fighting Turkastor. Turkastor was hovering in the middle of the main area, spewing gravy and creamed corn at everyone. Quill yells to Turkastor in Avian that he’s free and he can leave. Turkastor replies in Avian that he has decided to bring “The Endless Feast” to everyone who is at the Guild Headquarters and refers to Quill as his Chosen Champion. Iliana is translating all this to everyone else. Bahbahra was not happy to hear Turkastor call Quill his Chosen Champion. Since Turkastor does not seem receptive to leaving, the party joins the fight against him. Quill, before joining the fight, goes to the general goods store and attempts to buy another scroll of recall. Bobahra yells “I’M A LITTLE BUSY AT THE MOMENT” as he’s throwing various potions at Turkastor and to the guild members fighting. Quill then joins the fight. The party vanquishes Turkastor, who explodes into more food.
