Four Body Problem, or That Trenchcoat Has More Than One Tail
The adventurers of SevFi gathered after a harrowing encounter and returned to the guild hall for rest. After a meal at the ever-reliable Garden of Olives, the party reveled in good food and conversation, unaware that their next challenge was closer than expected. As they left the restaurant, Thaskagh, the Half-Orc Barbarian, noticed a bizarre figure in the crowd—a seven-foot-tall person in an oversized trench coat with a disproportionately small head, wobbling suspiciously. Sensing something amiss, Thaskagh immediately called attention to the figure, drawing the interest of the group.
Thaskagh, Linzu, and Garian began to follow the suspicious figure, which became even stranger when the coat moved in an odd, disjointed manner. As the party drew closer, it became apparent that the figure was actually a group of kobolds stacked on top of each other, trying to appear as one large individual. Linzu made the first move, lunging at the strange coat-wearing kobolds and grabbing one of them. With the element of surprise lost, the kobolds scattered, attempting to flee through the busy streets.
Linzu managed to catch the tail of one of the kobolds, only to have it swipe at her with a dagger, though the attack missed. A chase ensued as the party split up, with Thaskagh grappling with the kobolds while others attempted to corral the fleeing creatures. Garian’s calm demeanor and swift action allowed him to grab one of the kobolds by the tail, but not without more commotion from the nimble creatures. Mitsuku tried to assist as well, and it wasn’t long before the team managed to capture several of the mischievous kobolds, albeit with some struggle.
The captured kobolds, upon realizing they were outnumbered and outmatched, began revealing their true nature. It became clear that they were petty thieves, stealing small trinkets and silverware from the town’s residents. While SevFi worked to gather information from the captured kobolds, Iliana, the Eladrin Druid, used her magical abilities to ensnare one of the kobolds in a fist of earth, suspending it midair. This act, combined with the party’s sheer intimidation, caused the kobolds to comply, albeit grudgingly.
It was then revealed that the kobolds were not acting alone. As the party interrogated their captives, they noticed more movement in the distance—another kobold, cloaked in shadow, was hiding on a windowsill. Iliana, using her eladrin abilities, gracefully teleported to the kobold’s location, charming it with her presence. The kobold, now completely enamored with Iliana, readily complied with her commands and followed her back to the group without resistance.
As the kobolds fell into line, the party noticed that these creatures were strangely reverent, calling Iliana their “mistress” after she had charmed one of them. This sudden change in behavior amused the party but also raised questions. The kobolds, now docile, offered up all their stolen goods—silverware, gold coins, and even a tooth—all in an attempt to appease their new “mistress.” Amused, Iliana and the party decided to take the kobolds back to the guild hall.
Upon returning to the guild, Bahbahra Sheeldshell, the no-nonsense tortolan secretary, was less than impressed with the party’s captives. She questioned their decision to bring the ragtag group of kobolds back to the guild, advising them to simply let the creatures go. However, after much discussion and deliberation, the party managed to persuade Bahbahra to tolerate the kobolds, at least temporarily, while they figured out what to do with them. Despite the mess the kobolds had made, it was clear that the adventurers had found themselves a strange new set of followers.
As the party prepared to deal with their newfound “pets,” they couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. What started as a simple night out had turned into a chaotic adventure involving thieving kobolds, unexpected encounters, and a lot of misplaced silverware. With the kobolds now in tow and more questions than answers, SevFi prepared for whatever came next in their unpredictable journey.
